About Us
A group of noble people started realizing the above saying of the prophet (peace be upon him), and the Delhi Youth Welfare Association (DYWA) was born in December 1990. The team scrutinized all the hindrances that were accountable for the low standard of education in the walled city and started working on eradicating such deterrents for students. The educational fundamental aim of this organization is to impress the values/standards of the historical walled city. With time, the group started expanding its activities to education and opened a library in 1994. This library was named after the revered Islamic scholar, Hazrat Shah Waliullah Public Library, who was a Muslim reformist in 18th century India. We began distribution rations, medicines, and scholarships to deserving windows and other in need, under the banner of the Delhi Youth Welfare Association (DYWA); but felt this action, though noble, did not make the desired difference to ground realities. II Literacy due to poor financial conditions and the resultant lack of resources was a chronic problem that needed their immediate attention. Hence, we started sponsoring the education of deserving children, and opened the Hazrat Shah Waliullah Public Library, sometimes in the 90s.

Delhi Youth Welfare Association
To restore and empower the community of the Walled City by bridging the gap between historical heritage and modern opportunity.
We envision an Old Delhi where:
Education is a Right, Not a Luxury: No student in the Jama Masjid area is forced to abandon their studies due to a lack of textbooks or tuition fees.
Heritage is Living: The literary and cultural treasures of Urdu, Arabic, and Persian are preserved and made accessible to the next generation of scholars.
Empowerment through Skill: Young women and underprivileged youth are equipped with the digital literacy and professional skills required to thrive in the 21st-century economy.
Communal Resilience: A self-sustaining ecosystem of mutual aid exists where local leaders directly uplift their most vulnerable neighbors.

Key Initiatives & Impact
1. Education & Financial Support
DYWA acts as a safety net for students in the dense neighborhoods of Central Delhi who might otherwise drop out due to financial constraints.
Textbook Distribution: They organize an annual distribution drive, providing free course books to 700–800 students (Classes 8th to 12th).
Fee Assistance: They directly pay school fees for approximately 250–300 students annually.
Merit Awards: The association holds annual functions to honor and encourage meritorious students from the community.
2. The Hazrat Shah Waliullah Public Library
This is perhaps the organization’s most culturally significant contribution. Located in the winding lanes of Pahari Imli, this library is more than just a study space:
Rare Collection: It houses over 20,000 books, including rare manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu. Notable items include a gold-embossed Quran and the poetry collection (Diwan) of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar.
Night Owl Hours: Uniquely, the library stays open late into the night (often until midnight), providing a quiet refuge for students and scholars in the bustling Old Delhi area.
Cultural Hub: It serves as a center for preserving the literary heritage of the walled city.
3. Women’s Empowerment
Skill Development: As you noted, they provide free computer training courses specifically designed for deserving girls to enhance employability.
Scholarships: They sponsor the education of several girls, ensuring financial barriers do not stop their schooling.

The organization is driven by local residents who understand the specific needs of the community.
